A post about . . . posts
It's no secret: motorcyclists crash. Trouble is, that they usually hit something other than the ground as part of the crashing process.
Often, that 'something' will be s signpost.
Signpost Solutions have come up with a low-cost padding option to cover particularly 'exposed' signposts, called the Biker mate.
SignPost Solutions have devised the Worlds first car and motorcycle friendly sign mast. The photograph shows the new ' Biker Mate ' device fitted to a Lattix passively safe mast which is the first time that both types of road user have been accomodated in one installation and offers a safe solution for each mode of transport when collisions occur.
Biker Mate can also be fitted to steel sign posts, signal pole, lighting columns and and wooden telegraph poles. The unique patented device is low cost and very simple to install and also remove/refit where neccessay for access to lighting column doors. Biker Mate is available with or without reflective material and comes in modular form so that any height can be achieved.

Hmm. First posts - kerbs next then?
ReplyDeleteGiven most councils seem to be unable to afford grit for the roads in winter, I suspect this will be rather low on their priority list. Certainly I don't want to be taxed for gimmicks like this.
It looks like a patent troll anyway.
Better solution would be to remove all but the most essential signs.
To be honest, I agree that removal - or at least 'carefully positioned' posts are the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand - from the way it wastes cable if nothing else! - why lamp posts are always on the outside of bends . . .
However, as the stats. show, it's what happens just after you decide to crash rather than the initial loss of control which will damage you, so use of such cushioning in certain positions might help.
Of course, the Council have to pay for it to be installed, but I doubt they often have to pay damages . . .
Then there's no-slip manhole covers . . . That's another waste of money IMHO . . .
What's wrong with straw bales?

I'm guesing they intend it for pemanent use rather than road races.
